Tinicum is a fitting finish because it makes the route end with the system rather than the postcard. Like Finns Point, it is a Delaware River rear range light, part of the navigational infrastructure that helped commercial ships hold a safe line through the river toward Philadelphia and Camden.
The steel skeletal tower was first lit on New Year's Eve 1880. Current tourism information describes 112 steps from the base pavilion to the lantern. The view replaces dunes and ocean with industrial river geography: refineries, bridges, airport approaches, the Philadelphia skyline and the working Delaware.
For 2026, Tinicum is also one of the official Saturday night-climb locations, although on the recommended route it functions as the Sunday finish.
Project-management note
Do not leave until the completion process is complete. The organizer says the final site checks the collected stamps, applies the completion sticker and enters finishers into the prize drawing. This is the closeout meeting. Do not drive away before the deliverable is accepted.
Worth noticing nearby
Red Bank Battlefield in National Park is nearby along the Delaware River and preserves the site of the 1777 Battle of Fort Mercer and the Whitall House. It is an excellent historical extension once the Challenge is complete — although Whitall House tour hours end earlier than the Challenge window, so treat it as a separate itinerary item.
