XPoNential Music Festival Returns to Camden With a Weekend Built for Discovery

The XPoNential Music Festival has always made a slightly different promise than the giant destination festival. The point is not simply to stack the largest names possible across a weekend. It is to put established artists, emerging acts and the kind of musicians WXPN listeners have been discovering on the radio into the same compact stretch of the Camden waterfront and let the day unfold from there.

The 33rd annual festival returns to Wiggins Park from Friday, Sept. 18 through Sunday, Sept. 20, with two stages set along the Delaware River and a 2026 lineup led by Dawes, Portugal. The Man and Little Feat. Friday also brings Cyril Neville Plays The Dead, Devon Gilfillian, Budos Band, Te Vista and Daniel Villarreal. Saturday includes St. Paul & The Broken Bones, S.G. Goodman, Leif Vollebekk, Couch, Grace Gardner, Mackenzie Johnson, Zoe Lemon and The Flying Vees. Sunday closes the weekend with Rebirth Brass Band, Madison Cunningham, Ratboys, Langhorne Slim, Sierra Hull, Tyler Ballgame and Fat Mezz before Little Feat takes the River Stage at 6:20 p.m.

The newly released set times preserve one of the festival’s strongest qualities: the schedule feels navigable. Friday opens at 5 p.m. with Te Vista on the Marina Stage and ends with Dawes at 9:15 p.m. Saturday begins at 12:30 p.m. with The Flying Vees and builds toward Portugal. The Man at 7:05 p.m. Sunday starts at 12:30 p.m. with Fat Mezz and finishes with Little Feat. The River and Marina stages alternate often enough that the weekend invites movement, but not the kind of frantic sprint that turns a music festival into a scheduling exercise.

That matters because discovery is part of the event’s identity. WXPN has spent decades functioning as a public-radio bridge between artists who already have an audience and artists who are still building one. XPoNential turns that programming philosophy into a physical place. A person can arrive for a band they already know and leave talking about somebody who played four hours earlier.

Wiggins Park helps. The two stages sit in natural amphitheater-style spaces along the Camden waterfront, with lawns, riverfront promenades and views toward Philadelphia. The festival is large enough to feel like an event but compact enough that the setting remains legible. It still feels like a gathering built around listening rather than a temporary city built around branding.

Friday gates open at 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday gates open at noon. General-public passes are currently $300 for all three days, $98 for Friday and $108 for Saturday or Sunday. Kids ages 2-12 can attend all three days with a $15 pass. WXPN members have access to discounted pricing.

There will be no box office or Will Call at Wiggins Park this year, so passes must be purchased online before arrival. The festival is outdoors and runs rain or shine. Coolers up to 50 quarts are permitted, but high-profile chairs, tents, beach umbrellas, professional camera gear, recording equipment, drones and outside alcohol are prohibited. There is no public Wi-Fi at Wiggins Park.

Re-entry is permitted after obtaining a festival or WXPN member wristband for the day. Food, beverages and retail vendors will be on site, and WXPN members have access to additional festival benefits including an artist meet-and-greet area.

The headliners make the weekend easy to circle. The deeper reason to go is everything around them. A public-radio music festival is one of the few places where “you should hear this person” can still operate as an organizing principle rather than a recommendation tile.

That is the story we will be looking for on the waterfront: not only who drew the biggest crowd, but which artist made people stop walking, which set changed the afternoon, and how much room a festival can still leave for discovery when almost every other part of music culture is optimized to tell us what we already like.
